Dim Multifunction Display in Instrument Cluster During Cold Temperatures

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the multifunction display in the instrument cluster is difficult to read (Figure 1) for 10-20 minutes after the engine is started during cold temperatures (-16 degree F to 32 degree F), this may be due to a hardware fault in the instrument cluster. To resolve, follow the below applicable information.

- Up to Star Diagnosis (SDS) version 10/06, contact the Star Diagnosis Hotline (1-888-532-7096). The hotline will tell you how to proceed.

- As of SDS version 11/06, perform the command "Change brightness of instrument illumination" found at SDS menu path: Control units -> information & communication -> instrument cluster -> actuations.

NOTE:
Due to the LCD design, there may be a difference in brightness between the multifunction display and the outer gauges (fuel gauge/coolant temperature) for up to three minutes after the engine is started in cold conditions. This is due to the characteristics of LCD technology. This is normal and instrument clusters should not be replaced for this condition.
