Navigation: Unable to View Map Screen
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicle that when entering the navigation mode, there is an error message asking that a navigation DVD with map software be inserted instead, this may be caused by two separate issues. To assist in identifying the issue, go to the Navigation screen on the COMAND Head Unit and compare to Figures 1 and 2.
Condition 1 - National Version Not Set (Figure 1)
The "National Version" has not been set for COMAND Head unit installed in the vehicle.
Note:
A new head unit will exhibit this condition as well until the below procedure is performed.
1. Using Star Diagnosis 01/06 with AddOn ID 2006-01-27-0514 and AddOn ID 2006-02-13-0523 to 04/06 use the following procedure to set the version and bring up the preinstalled database on the hard drive.

Condition 2 - Non-Functioning Hard Drive (Figure 2)
The hard drive is non-functional in the COMAND Head Unit and the COMAND needs to be replaced.

5. Check that the Central Gateway (CGW) is coded for the original vehicle option list:
a. Follow the path: Control Units --> Information and Communication --> Audio, video, navigation and telematics --> COMAND --> control unit adaptation --> Read coding and change if necessary --> Automatically adjust vehicle-specific and special equipment-specific codings.
Note:
This screen will display a list of coding options that are set automatically and a list of options that must be coded directly into the CGW.
