GF86.10-P-0002SXS Fresh Air Emergency System, Function
- with CODE (Z07) Top protection
- up to model year 08

Component Identification:

Function
The fresh air emergency system separates the vehicle interior from the outside air and provides oxygen for the passengers from compressed air bottle.

Function requirements
^ Circuit 15

Manual activation

The following functions are actuated when the activate button is pressed:
^ The fresh air emergency system control unit transmits the request for recirculated air and blower switch-off to the passenger interior CAN via the special vehicle multifunction control unit. The AAC control unit switches off the blower motor for approx. 5 s and switches the fresh air/air recirculation flaps actuator motor to the recirculated air.If the fresh air/air recirculation flaps are set to recirculated air, the blower motor is switched to the blower stage last set.
^ The fresh air system emergency warning buzzer sounds for 6 s
^ The LED in the activate button flashes for 6 s
^ The activate button is switched to active for 6 s.

Automatic activation
If the irritant gas composition in the outside air exceeds a certain threshold value sensed by the fresh air sensor, the fresh air system emergency control unit actuates the following functions:
^ The fresh air system emergency control unit transmits the request for recirculated air and blower switch-off to the interior CAN via the special vehicle multifunction control unit. The AAC control unit switches off the blower for approx. 5 s and switches the fresh air/air recirculation flaps actuator motor to recirculated air .If the fresh air/air recirculation air flaps are set to recirculated air, the blower motor is switched to the blower stage last set.
^ The fresh air system emergency warning buzzer sounds
^ The LED in the fresh air system emergency activate button flashes

Activate fresh air system emergency

Function requirement
^ Fresh air emergency system activated manually or automatically (LED in activate button flashes)

Function

The following functions are activated when the activate button is pressed for > 1 s:
^ The left exhaust air flap motor and right exhaust air flap motor are actuated via the left exhaust air flap motor polarity-reversing relay (K106) and right exhaust air flap motor polarity-reversing relay (K106/1) and the exhaust air flaps are closed for approx. 5 minutes.
^ The fresh air system emergency pressure medium reservoir solenoid valve opens the compressed air bottle. The air flows via a nozzle with muffler into the right footwell in the rear.

The compressed air bottle is emptied after approx. 3 minutes and the pressure in the passenger compartment is approx. 20 Pa.

Monitoring compressed air bottle interior pressure
The fresh air system emergency control unit permanently checks the compressed air bottle interior pressure via the oxygen cylinder pressure sensor. If the pressure in the compressed air bottle drops to below 250 bars, the fresh air system emergency warning buzzer sounds for 10 s when circuit 15R is switched on. Simultaneously, the LED in the fresh air system emergency activate button is actuated permanently.

Deactivating automatic function
The fresh air sensor can be deactivated for a certain time, i.e. until circuit 15 OFF is switched. For this purpose, hold down activate button for 5 s.If circuit 15R ON is switched again, the fresh air sensor is reactivated.

When the windshield washer system is activated, the fresh air sensor is deactivated temporarily to prevent false actuation by the cleaning agent.
