FILE:SERVICE: GROUP OO OF SERVICE INFORMATION BINDER
PARTS: GROUP I OF INFORMATION _ PARTS & ACCESSORIES BINDER
Campaign No. 2007100007, December 2007
TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS
SUBJECT:
MODEL 221.186, MODEL YEAR 2007
CHECK ROUTING OF HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING LINE
This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles there may not have been the specified clearance (at least 3 mm) placed between the hydraulic line and the longitudinal member during the manufacturing process. Dealers will check and correct the routing of the hydraulic line, and replace the hydraulic line if necessary.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described.
Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 273 vehicles are affected.
Procedure
NOTE:
Refer to the MSDS (via NetStar or the Parts Assistance Center website) for a complete description of these hazards and other important safety information.
1. Check routing of the high pressure power steering line (A, Figure 1) for proper clearance (unobstructed movement) at the longitudinal member (arrow):
^ If clearance (A, Figure 2) is a minimum of 3 mm, procedure is complete.
^ If clearance (A) is < 3 mm, proceed to step 2.
2. Inspect high pressure power steering line (arrow, Figure 2) for chafe marks where it comes into proximity with the longitudinal member (B):
^ If chafe marks are not present, proceed to step 3.
^ If chafe marks are present, continue to step 4.
3. Correct the routing of the high pressure power steering line:
^ Position a pry bar (A, Figure 3) between the power steering line (B) and the longitudinal member (C).
^ Pry the power steering line (B) away from the longitudinal member (C) until a clearance of 3 mm is reached.
CAUTION!:
Do not support pry bar on windshield washer bottle.
^ Procedure is complete.
4. Replace high pressure power steering line, refer to WIS: AR46.25-P-3015SXB.
