^ Daytime running lamps function in instrument cluster (A1) activated

For the national versions Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark the daytime running lamps function in the instrument cluster (A1) is configured ex-factory to comply with legal regulations and it cannot be deactivated.

Function
The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) sends the request for "Standing lamp and low beam On" on the CAN-B (CAN-B) and at the same time actuates the left standing and parking lamp (E1e3) in the left front lamp unit and, via the xenon headlamp control unit (E2n1) and the xenon headlamp ignition module (E2n2), the right low beam (E2e2) in the right front lamp unit.

The passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/11) actuates the right standing and parking lamp (E2e3) in the right front lamp unit and, via the xenon headlamp control unit (E1n1) and the xenon headlamp ignition module (E1n2), the left low beam (E1e2) of the left front lamp unit.
The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) actuates the left stop lamp, taillamp and parking lamp (E3e9) in the left taillamp and the right stop lamp, taillamp and parking lamp (E4e9) in the right taillamp as well as the left license plate lamp (E19/1) and the right license plate lamp (E19/2).

The daytime running lamps have a higher priority compared to the automatic driving lamps.

In those countries with a statutory daytime running light regulation, only the headlamp flasher is permitted in daytime running lights mode, and not the high beam function. The high beam function is only permissible if the driving lamps have been activated via the rotary light switch (S1).

National version (Canada):
If the rotary light switch (S1) the "auto" switch position and the automatic light switch daylight sensor (up to 31.5.04) or the rain/ light sensor (as from 1.6.04) does not detect darkness, then if the daytime running lamps are active only the left low beam (E1e2) and the right low beam (E2e2) are actuated while dimmed.

If the vehicle is at a standstill the daytime running lamps are switched off after 3 min. If the automatic light switch daylight sensor (up to 31.5.04) or the rain/light sensor (as from 1.6.04) detects darkness, then the left standing and parking lamp (E1e3) and the right standing and parking lamp (E2e3) remain active.
