General
The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) permits the reception of stations in the Digital Audio Broadcasting (Digital Radio) (DAB) format. The DAB functions are controlled over the radio (A2). The information or displays required for control are shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
Operating instructions
The system can be operated using the following components:
^ Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
^ Group of buttons on right of multifunction steering wheel (S111)
^ Control buttons on the radio
Function sequence for DAB radio
^ The multifunction antenna receives DAB-L-BAND signals for the local provision, usually from conurbation stations.
^ The TV and DAB-Band-III antenna receives DAB-Band-III signals for large-area provision, usually from stations with a large range or pan-regional broadcasters.
The signals are forwarded to the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit using coaxial cables. In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the data is exchanged between the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit, the radio and the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
The audio output takes place over the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker (H4/1)
^ Right front door speaker (H4/2)
^ Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
^ Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
^ Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
^ Bass speaker (H4/29)
^ Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
^ Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, data exchange takes place between the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit and the radio over MOST. Audio output is sent directly by the radio via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center instrument panel speaker
Diagnosis
The radio is the diagnosis gateway for all MOST users. Diagnosis is performed via the diagnostic CAN and the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via the interior CAN to the radio using the Keyword 2000 protocol.
