- Transmission 722.6
- with CODE (428) Steering wheel shift buttons

Component Identification:

Location
The steering wheel downshift button is located on the left, the steering wheel upshift button is located on the right on the back of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL).

Task
The tasks of the steering wheel downshift button and steering wheel upshift button are as follows:
^ Preselection of shift range.
^ Shifting into a gear from which the vehicle can be favorably accelerated or decelerated.
^ Direct switching of all forward gears in manual program "M"

Function
The steering wheel downshift button and steering wheel upshift button are read in by the steering column module (N80) via the steering LIN. The steering column module places the "shift down" signal and the "upshift" signal from the steering wheel downshift button or from the steering wheel upshift button on the chassis CAN. The electronic transmission control control unit (N15/3) receives the signal via the ME control unit (N3/10) (gasoline vehicles) or via the CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel vehicles) and triggers the gear change.

Shifts, which could result in impermissibly high or low engine speeds, are not performed.
