Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)

Possible cause:

- Charge pressure control valve
- Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)
Affected functions:

- Engine output

-------------------------------------------------

Test 1: Check component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer).

Test 2: Check mechanical operation of boost pressure control valve.

1. Check component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer).

Test 1.1: Check component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer) using actual value.

Test 1.2: Test current consumption of component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer).

1.1. Check component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer) using actual value.
Test sequence

- Engine in full load mode
Status of relevant actual value:
- Temperature of coolant:Warning! Communication with ECU required.
- Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer) , Duty cycle:Warning! Communication with ECU required.
Specified value:Duty cycle < 80%Question

- Is the actual value o.k.?

YES
The actual value is okay.End of test

NO
The actual value is not o.k.Possible cause and remedy

- Current consumption of component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)
End of test

1.2. Test current consumption of component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer).
Test sequence

- Switch off ignition.
- Connect socket box (126-pin) to component N3/10 (ME-SFI [ME] control unit).
- Measure direct current with multimeter between sockets (3.4) 37 and (2.23) 32 of the 126-pole socket box tester.
- Switch on ignition.
Specified value

- Amperage [0.4...0.6] A
Question

- Is the measurement value OK?

YES
The measurement value is OK.End of test

NO
The measurement value is not OK.Possible cause and remedy

- Voltage supply of component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)(<->Wiring diagrams)
- Check lines from component N3/10 (ME-SFI [ME] control unit) to component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer).
- Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)
End of test

2. Check mechanical operation of boost pressure control valve.
Figure legend/figure

- 019 -Overpressure-Vacuum tester
- a -Hose connection to component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)
- b -Hose to component 'Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)'
Test sequence

- Switch off ignition.
- Remove upper engine cover and lower engine compartment paneling.
- Detach hose b to component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer) at component 'Charge air cooler, right cylinder bank' and connect pressure/vacuum tester to hose b.
- Apply pressure to vacuum cells for the boost pressure control valve.
- Use pressure tester to adjust pressure to approx. 800 mbar.
- Hold pressure.
Specified value

- Pressure may drop by no more than 50 over 1 min.
Question

- Is the pressure maintained?

YES
Figure legend/figure

- 110bRight turbocharger
- 110/3bControl rod
Procedure

- Check whether control rod (110/3b) from the vacuum cell to the boost pressure control valve (left and right cylinder bank) is extended by 8...13 mm.
Question

- Is the test o.k?

YES
The test is o.k..End of test

NO
The test is not o.k..Possible cause and remedy

- Control rod is bent
- Boost pressure control valve sticks (remains open or closed).
End of test

NO
The pressure required is not reached.Possible cause and remedy

- Hose to component 'Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)'
- Hose from component Left or right vacuum cell to component Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)
- Left or right vacuum cell
- Y31/5 (Charge pressure control vacuum transducer)
End of test
