GF54.65-P-0001SX Parktronic System (PTS), Function
- with CODE (220) Parktronic system (PTS)
Description
The Parktronic system (PTS) is an ultrasonic measuring system for detecting the distance to an obstacle. PTS assists the driver in estimating distances to obstacles in front and behind the vehicle. When the ignition is switched on, the PTS control unit (N62) performs a self-test.
PTS is in measuring mode up to a speed of 18 km/h; after this it enters stand-by mode; as from a speed of 40 km/h the system is deactivated.
When under a vehicle speed of 40 km/h to 16 km/h the system is in stand-by mode, when the lower speed threshold of 16 km/h is dropped below the PTS enters measuring mode.
On approaching an obstruction a visual (and, if necessary, an acoustic) warning is given.
The PTS can be manually switched off using the PTS OFF switch (S6/2s12) in the cockpit switch group (S6/2).
On vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch the area to the rear of the vehicle is not monitored when a trailer used.
Monitoring range
If drive position "D" is engaged the monitoring range (A) is in front of the vehicle, if drive position "R" or "N" is engaged the monitoring range (A, B) is in front and behind the vehicle.
The monitoring range in front of the vehicle is maximum 100 cm (a), behind the vehicle maximum 120 cm (b).
If the distances are less than 20 cm (c1, c2) the PTS will not receive any more defined values.
The outer left front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/1) and outer right front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/6) are used particularly for protecting corners in the swivel range of the vehicle front.
Ultrasonic sensors are not installed for corner protection in the swivel range of the vehicle at the rear because these areas can be seen using the outside mirrors.
