Component Identification:






General
The instrument cluster has the following tasks:
^ Output of the important operating condition of the vehicle
^ Warning about critical operating conditions of the vehicle
^ Display unit of various systems
^ Computer and display for the active service system PLUS (ASSYST PLUS)
^ Trip computer (RRE) for the driver

Networking and information flow
The instrument cluster receives all information via the central CAN. On vehicles with code (610) night view assist if necessary the night vision can be faded into the multifunction display. For this the instrument cluster has its own low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) interface. The displays in the instrument cluster can be differentiated into variable displays and fixed displays.

Fixed displays
Fixed displays cannot change their position and are always shown at the same point.
The following displays, warning lamps and indicator lamps are fixed displays:
^ Coolant temperature display
^ Fuel level and reserve indicator
^ Tachograph
^ Fuel reserve indicator lamp
^ Coolant temperature warning lamp
^ Engine diagnosis indicator lamp
^ Preglow indicator lamp
^ CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp (A1e26)
^ High beam headlamp indicator lamp
^ ABS indicator lamp
^ Airbag indicator and warning lamp

Some fixed displays in the instrument cluster are only fitted country-specific.

Variable displays
Variable displays can change their position and are shown at various points as required. Some variable displays can also be switched on or off via the various menu levels.
In general all the displays in the multifunction display are variable displays and can change their position.

Operation of the instrument cluster
The menu levels of the instrument cluster are operated via the following buttons of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
^ Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
^ System select button (S110s3)
^ "Back" and VCS [SBS] off button (S110s4)
^ OK button (S110s6)
^ Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
