Seat Belt Pulled Out with Great Effort and Noise from Tensioner Gearing
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the seat belt can only be pulled out with great effort, while a noise can be heard from the reversible reel tensioner gearing, this may be due to the customer continuously pulling on the seat belt strap while adjusting the fit of the belt after buckling up (to reduce the slack). This action causes the drive of the reversible reel tensioner to remain engaged.
Note:
Do not replace the seat belt!
To resolve the situation, insert the seat belt into the belt buckle with increased effort and switch on the ignition (circuit 15 ON). (This causes the belt adjustment sequence to be repeated and the drive of the reversible reel tensioner disengages properly.)
Note:
Explain to the customer that the seat belt has an automatic tensioner. Therefore, the seat belt buckle should be inserted into the latch and any seat belt slack will be automatically retracted.
Note:
On customer request the "belt adjustment" function can be deactivated using the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. Refer to the Operator's Manual "Switching seat belt adjustment on and off". This may not be submitted as a warranty claim.
