The trip computer (TRIP) enables the expected range of the vehicle up to the next refueling point to be displayed. The display takes place as of position 1 (circuit 15R ON) of the transmitter key (A8/1), if the menu item "Trip" is called up. As of position 2 (circuit 15 ON) of the transmitter key the trip computer integrated in the instrument cluster (A1) calculates the range. Whether the display takes place in kilometers or miles depends on the coding of the national version of the instrument cluster. The range is displayed in increments of 1 kilometer or 1 mile.
Once the menu item "Trip" has been activated with the system selection button (S110s3) of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL), by pressing the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel the range is selected and displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.
To calculate the range the ratio of tank content and average fuel consumption is formed. The fundamentals for the calculation are the data from the short distance memory. The following information is required:
^ The current fuel level
^ The average fuel consumption
The range is updated more frequently when the fuel level in the tank is in the reserve range. The reserve range on which this is based can differ slightly from the reserve range of the fuel level and reserve indicator (A1p2) of the instrument cluster.
