General
Cellular mobile telephone subscriber A has logged into the mobile telephone network through his/her mobile service switching center, and cellular mobile telephone subscriber B has logged into the mobile telephone network through his/her mobile service switching center B and both are registered in their respective home location register. Now both mobile phone subscribers can call each other via the following communication route:
- Mobile phone
- Base transceiver station
- Base station controller
- Mobile service switching center or mobile service switching center B
However, if cellular mobile telephone subscriber A or cellular mobile telephone subscriber B log into the mobile telephone network outside of the reception area of their mobile service switching center or mobile service switching center B, then both are entered into the visitor location register of the nearest mobile service switching center by the nearest base transceiver station and base station controller.
The nearest mobile service switching center automatically contacts the responsible home location register of the mobile service switching center for cellular mobile telephone subscriber A or the mobile service switching center B for cellular mobile telephone subscriber B and signals the present location of cellular mobile telephone subscriber A or cellular mobile telephone subscriber B.
If mobile phone subscriber A wants to call mobile phone subscriber B, he/she enters the subscriber's telephone number. On the basis of this telephone number, the present location of cellular mobile telephone subscriber B can be determined by his/ her mobile service switching center B. With the information on the location, the mobile phone system then transfers the call from mobile phone subscriber A to mobile phone subscriber B via the best communication route.
The mobile phone system also automatically searches for the most favorable communication route during a phone call in order to minimize transmission losses.
The transmission route in the mobile telephone network consists of the following:
- Mobile phone
- Base transceiver station
- Base station controller
- Mobile service switching center or mobile service switching center B
