GF82.70-P-3000R Dialing, Function
- with CODE (813) Voice control sytem (VCS [SBS])

Component Identification:

Prerequisites:
^ The radio (A2) or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched on.
^ The voice control system (VCS) (LINGUATRONIC) is activated by operating the VCS switch (S93/2).
^ The telephone function of the VCS has been activated by speaking the command "Telephone".
^ The PIN code has been entered and accepted.

The following commands (amongst others) can be used for operating (dialing) the VCS:
1. Initial commands (to start the required functions)
- Dial number
- Dial telephone number
- Dial name
- Store number
- Store telephone number
- Store name
- Dial

2. Editing commands (to correct/cancel a function or delete data)
- Redial number
- Redial telephone number
- Correct number
- Correct telephone number
- Delete number
- Delete telephone number
- Delete

3. Ending commands (to exit a function, to cancel a function or refer to a subordinate function):
- Store number
- Store telephone number
- Abort
- Cancel

Example of a dialog used to establish a connection by speaking a telephone number:
After the user has said the command "Dial number", the VCS prompts the user to enter the number with the voice output "Please say the number". The spoken number can contain the digits "zero" to "nine" and the word "plus". The word "plus" replaces the international area code (e.g. "00"). The telephone number can consist of 1 to 30 digits and can be entered as a complete number string or in separate number blocks. A "number string" means that the entire number is spoken in sequence as one unit. After the number string has been entered, the VCS repeats it back to the user.

A "number block" means that the number is entered in blocks of approx. 3-5 digits per block with a pause of approx. 0.5 s between each block.
After a number block has been entered, the VCS repeats the recognized digits back to the user and then waits for the user to say the next digits. The VCS is continuous dialog with the user and tells the user if there is any unrecognized or faulty input. The user can then continue to speak numbers or enter an end or edit command.
If the telephone number has been entered correctly, the system establishes the connection following the user's command "Dial". The entered telephone number is shown on the display of the radio (A2) or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and the instrument cluster (left and right multifunction display) (A1p13, A1p15).

The telephone display in the instrument cluster (A1) can be switched off by means of specific system coding.

The dialog is ended by speaking the command "Cancel".

Example of a dialog used to store a name in the address book:
Frequently used telephone numbers can be stored in the VCS. After the user has said the command "Store name", the VCS prompts the user to enter the number with the voice output "Please say the number". After the number has been entered, the user speaks the command "Store". The VCS now prompts the user to enter the name with the voice output "Please say the name". After this, the VCS prompts the user to repeat the name with the voice output "Please repeat the name". Then the VCS prompts the user to indicate which address book (private, mobile or business) the number should be stored in with the voice output "Where should the number be stored: private, mobile or business". The VCS confirms this action with the voice output "Name and number are stored".

The entries stored in the telephone book can only be called up reliably by the user who stored them.

Example of a dialog used to establish a connection by speaking a name:
After the user has said the command "Dial name", the VCS prompts the user to speak the name of the person to be called. If there is more than one entry under the name (private, mobile or business), the VCS prompts the user to select the correct one with the voice output "Which number should be dialed: private, mobile or business". After the user has responded (e.g. with "private") the VCS repeats the name and type of entry and then outputs "Number is being dialed".
With this dialing option, the final command "Dial" can be omitted.

Example of a dialog used to establish a connection by redialing the number:
If the desired number is not available (e.g. line is busy), the user can have the system redial the last number selected after canceling the dialing, reactivating the VCS by means of the VCS switch (S93/2) and then speaking the command "Redial".

Example of a dialog with an editing command used to correct an error:
If number is incorrectly recognized by the VCS or incorrectly entered by the user, the number can be corrected in the following two ways.
1. If the number has been entered as a number string (spoken in sequence without any pauses), then the number can only be changed by using the following editing commands:
- Delete
- Delete number
- Delete telephone number

All previously entered digits are then deleted. The system is now ready to accept a new number or command. The VCS reports this to the user with the voice output "Number deleted, please continue".

2. If the number was entered as a series of number blocks (3-5 digits per block, with pauses of 0.5 s between each block), the number can be changed by using the following editing commands:
- Correct
- Correction
- Correct telephone number

During these dialing options, the dialog with the VCS can be ended by pressing the VCS switch (S93/2) or speaking the command "Cancel". It is possible to make long-distance calls to foreign countries with the VCS or to control message services/ mailboxes.

A Help function exists which is intended to make operation of the VCS as easy as possible for the user.
If the user is in dialog mode with the telephone and speaks the command "Help", the VCS reads out the most important telephone commands.

If the user is in dialog mode with the radio (A2), the user can switch over to the telephone by speaking the command "Help Telephone". The VCS then reads out the most important telephone commands. The user can execute the command that was last read by operating the VCS switch (S93/2). Further information is given in the VCS (LINGUATRONIC) operator's manual.
