The road network shown is illustrated in a highly simplified manner.

Destination guidance includes making up and outputting driving recommendations to guide the driver to the desired destination.

The prerequisites for route guidance are:
^ constant location finding in operation (takes place automatically)
^ the destination has been entered
^ the route has been calculated

The navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control module A40/3) constantly compares the route data calculation with the data from constant location definition and derives from this the measures for further route guidance.

Two route guidance modes are possible depending on the position of the vehicle (see figure):
^ Route guidance within digitized CD-ROM map area.
^ limited route guidance outside of the digitized CD-ROM map area.
