Volume setting
Changing the volume of an audio source has an identical effect on all other audio sources. The volume is also jointly regulated within the service sources in the same manner. The volume of voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output. An adjustable interval (in menu "Settings") between the audio signal volume and the voice output volume is maintained automatically. This means that voice output remains audible even in the case of loud audio output.

Tone setting
Manual tone settings (treble, bass) can be made for each audio source on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The tone setting selected for the radio simultaneously applies to traffic radio messages.

Settings which are selected for voice output during navigation also influence the voice control system (VCS). In addition to this, the sound system (model 230.467 with Code (810) Sound system) can call up the following preset tone patterns:
^ Standard
^ Ambient low
^ Ambient medium
^ Ambient high
^ Voice-optimized
^ Driver optimized

With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fader) the ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes.

The functionality, operation and display of the volume and tone settings are performed by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The sound amplifier (A2/13) (model 230.467 with Code (810) Sound system) provides the power gain for the audio signals before they are output via the speakers.

SDV, DRO
The volume of the background noise in the vehicle interior is adapted to suit via the speed-dependent volume control (SDV) and the dynamic range optimization (DRO)(automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation). In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.
