The fuel pump(s) is (are) actuated:
^ During ignition ON: The fuel pump is actuated for about 2 seconds (can be heard partially) as a full running protection.
^ During start operation by means of the first signals supplied by the crankshaft position sensor.
^ When engine running by means of "TNA" engine speed signal.

Fuel pump actuation (model 211, 219)
Both fuel pumps are actuated simultaneously via the fuel pump relay.
The fuel pump relay is actuated through a ground signal from the ME control unit. When the relay contact is closed, the fuel pumps with fuel level sensor are connected to circuit 30 (B)+ via circuit 87.

Fuel pump actuation (model 215, 220, 230, 463)
The fuel pump is actuated by the fuel pump control unit via the fuel pump relay.
The fuel pump relay is actuated through a ground signal from the ME control unit. If the power contact of the relay is closed, the fuel pump control unit is connected via terminal 87 with terminal 30 (B)+ and undertakes control of the fuel pump.

Intank fuel pump actuation (model 215, 220, 230, 463)
The intank fuel pump is actuated via the intank fuel pump relay
The intank fuel pump relay is actuated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit through a ground signal depending on the engine speed and load (high engine speed, full load). If the power contact of the relay is closed, the intank fuel pump control unit is connected via terminal 87 with terminal 30 (B)+.
In case of model 230 to 06/2002, the intank fuel pump is not actuated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit directly, but via the intank fuel pump control unit (N118/1) depending on the engine speed.
