GF27.55-P-2001AHI Transmission oil cooler, component description
- TRANSMISSION 722.930
Component Identification:
Location
The transmission oil cooler is located in the center in front of the engine oil cooler.
Task
The transmission oil cooler lowers the temperature of the transmission oil and thus prevents overheating damage in the transmission.

Function
At a transmission oil temperature < 90 degrees C the transmission oil flows from the feed of the transmission oil heat exchanger via a bypass to the return of the transmission.
As the transmission oil temperature increases the expansion element is heated up by the transmission oil flowing along the bypass.
The expansion element expands and presses the thermostat piston downwards against the spring of the thermostat piston.
As a result the return from the transmission oil cooler to the transmission is opened at a transmission oil temperature > 90 degrees C and the bypass is closed off.
The transmission oil flows through the transmission oil cooler, the oil being cooled by the oncoming air which is flowing past.
