Function
The function washing is activated by pressing the combination switch (S4) beyond the catch point.
The windshield washer fluid pump (M5/1) is actuated by the front passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/11). At the same time the driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) transmits the "Wash" information to the overhead control panel control unit (N70) to prevent wiping by the rain sensor (B38) or the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

If washing takes place whilst
^ wiper level 2 is active, level 2 wiping takes place.
^ wiper level 1 or intermittent is active, level 1 wiping takes place.
^ the combination switch is in the park position (S4), level 1 wiping takes place.

Afterwiping
The number of after wipe processes depends on the time for which the combination switch (S4) is operated.
Afterwiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch (S4) is not longer being operated.

If the windshield washer fluid pump (M5/1) is requested for an operating time of less than 1 second, a single after wipe is performed.
Actuating the switch for more than 1 second for the first time causes a triple after wipe. If within the after wipe period a new wash is actuated, then a triple after wipe is always performed.

If after wipe is active in level 2, then the after wipe is also performed at level 2. If after wipe is active during level 1 or intermittent wipe mode, afterwiping takes place at level 1; this also applies if the combination switch (S4) is in the park position.

If the windshield washer pump (M5/1) is continuously requested for 15 seconds, the system detects a "hanging" button and actuation is stopped.
