Ignition ON, general points
For ignition ON, the engine control in the ME-SFI [ME] control (N3/10) is switched on and the engine prepared for starting.
Ignition ON function sequence
When the ignition is switched on by the EIS control unit (N73), the on-board voltage is connected from "tml. 30" to "tml. 15" through the terminal 15 relay (K40/2kB).
If voltage is present at "tml. 15" of the ME-SFI control unit, the motor electronics and chassis relay (K40/4kK) is actuated with a ground signal. To do this, the relay closes its power contact and the voltage is connected from "circuit 30 (depending on the corresponding fuses) " as "circuit 87 M1" to the ME-SFI control unit and as "circuit 87 M2/3/4" to the respective sensors and actuators of the engine control.
If a voltage is present at "tml. 87 M1", the engine control is switched on and an output stage driver in the ME-SFI control unit takes over the subsequent actuation of the motor electronics and chassis relay.
Switching on of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit causes the following functions to be executed:
- For complete safety, the fuel pump (M3) is actuated through the fuel pump relay (K40/5kT) (only when ignition ON after the vehicle is unlocked).
- For the lamp check on the (A1), the ME-SFI control unit actuates the engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58) over the engine compartment CAN (CAN C) (or with code (494) USA version the CHECK ENGINE indicator lamp (A1e26)).
- Data are exchanged with the EIS control unit EZS (tml. 50 signal and drive authorization) over the engine compartment CAN.
- The fault memory in the ME-SFI control unit can be read out and deleted over the data link connector (X11/4).
- Correction programming or diagnosis can be undertaken using DAS via the data link connector.
- The throttle valve actuator (M16/6) checks its return spring (via the position of the throttle valve) and may lead to a positioner adaptation.
- The tumble flap switchover is actuated and the tumble flaps are checked to determine whether the end positions are reached (except engine 272.968).
The following partial functions which are active for ignition ON are described in the following documents:
