The transmission overload protection protects shift elements of the transmission from excessive thermal stress during load changes in the upper engine speed range.

For short-term retarding of ignition timing and closing the throttle valve during the shift operations, the engine torque is reduced.

To do this the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) receives a signal from the fully integrated transmission control controller unit (Y3/8) via the drive train CAN (CAN C).
