Squeaking/Grinding Noise from Rear Axle Area When Driving Without Brake Application

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a metal-to-metal squeaking/grinding noise from the area of rear axle when driving without brake application, perform the following.

NOTE: The cause may be the result of the stator clip (Figure 1, 2) that is fitted to stator support of the parking brake shoes. This clip prevents the brake shoes from contacting the aluminum wheel carrier. If the clip is installed incorrectly, it can move from the stator towards the brake disc and make contact. Witness marks can generally be seen on the stator clip when contact is present.





Replace the clip and slide it on only far enough so that the side tabs (Figure 1, 1) are flush with the stator towards the brake disc (Figure 1).
