Satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR), general
The SDAR control unit (N87/5) enables "Sirius satellite radio" provider channels to be received.
The satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR) is controlled using the COMAND controller unit. The information or displays required for control are shown on the COMAND display (A40/8).

The SDAR can be operated using the following components:
- Front central operating unit (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

The control signals from the front central operating unit are relayed via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit and transmitted by the latter via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the SDAR control unit.

The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the audio equipment over the following route:
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Central gateway control unit (N93)
- Central CAN (CAN F)
- COMAND controller unit
- MOST
- SDAR control unit

SDAR function sequence
To achieve multi-channel reception, the Sirius satellite radio signal is transmitted three times (from two satellites and one terrestrial station). The SDAR antenna or the telephone and GPS roof antenna receives all three channels (satellite 1, satellite 2, terrestrial station).
The SDAR antenna or the telephone and GPS roof antenna then forwards the signals to the SDAR control unit via a coaxial cable. The SDAR control unit receives the digital radio signals, decodes them and transmits them over MOST to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1), which amplifies them and outputs them over the vehicle's speaker system.

The speaker system in model 216 comprises the following components:
- Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
- Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
