Matte Paintwork

The vehicles of the CLK special "Armani" series were the first vehicles to be put on the market with matte paintwork Additional matte paintwork colors have now been added to the designo range. The vehicles have a considerably reduced luster. The regal-looking matte effect is created by silicate particles in the clearcoat.

Vehicles with matte clear coat are currently available in the following colors:

Colors, Color Code:

^ Magno Allanite Gray 0044

^ Magno Kashmir white 0049

^ Magno platinum 0051

^ Designo Mystic Brown 0052

Vehicles with matte paintwork are clearly identifiable by the above specified color codes on the model plate.

Post-repair refinishing

A repair solution for matte paintwork has been developed with all approved paint partners (refer to the After-sales Paint Technology Guide: https://portal.aftersales.i.daimler.com ):

The following special considerations should be observed:

^ Paint repair:

Before post-repair refinishing, the production of a spray sample with base coat and clearcoat is strongly recommended for checking the color and luster.

The luster can also be measured using a commercially available reflectometer. In the case of "Magno matte paintwork" it is 23 %E (+/- 7) when measured at a 60° angle.

Painting the parts "edge to edge" is recommended. If this is not possible, we recommend a large repair of the entire damaged side of the vehicle.

Furthermore, spot repairs and touch-ups on parts are not recommended. In the event of repair, the entire component must be repaired i.e. the entire door must be coated with matte clearcoat, for example.

^ Final operations:

It is not possible to polish visible defects such as dirt or paint runs out of the last clearcoat layer because polishing results in visible differences in luster. For this reason, extreme cleanliness is important during repair. Any dirt inclusions must be removed before the last spray application of clearcoat.

No special working hours values have been created for matte paintwork because the repair procedure is the same as normal apart from the special considerations listed above.

The specifications of the repair paint manufacturers must always be followed during repair. These are found in the After-sales Paint Technology Guide (https://portal.aftersales.i.daimler.com [refer to the images shown earlier above]).

Note:
Special procedures must be followed during care, cleaning and repair.

Cleaning and care

Maintenance

To preserve the matte surface, paint cleaners, abrasive and polishing products as well as gloss preservers (wax) must not be applied to the paintwork.

It is especially important not to polish the vehicle. Polishing will cause glossy patches in the matte surface.

If polishing is performed, the matte effect can only be restored by painting again.

Excessive rubbing with unsuitable products can also cause brightening.

Frequent use of unsuitable washing facilities can increase the luster.

Cleaners

The following rules must be strictly followed for matte clearcoat:

The vehicle should preferably be washed by hand with a soft sponge, neutral soap and plenty of water. Frequent use of washing facilities can increase the luster and thus lessen the matte effect. Always avoid washing in direct sunlight.

Any adhering insects or bird lime should be removed immediately.

Soaking with water and use of a high pressure cleaner is recommended. In the case of difficult-to-remove insects, these should first be sprayed with insect remover (refer to parts table below).
