Component Identification:





Location
On the rear of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL), there is the steering wheel gear shifter MINUS on the left and the steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (S111/1) on the right.

Task
- Shifting into a gear from which the vehicle can be favorably accelerated or decelerated
- Direct shifting of all forward gears in manual transmission mode "M" (except code (494) USA version)

Function
The steering wheel gear shifters "MINUS" and "PLUS" are read in by the steering column tube module (N80) via a steering LIN (LIN E1) The steering column tube module places the "Downshift" or "Upshift" signals on the engine compartment CAN (CAN-C). The ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3) receives the signal via the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) and triggers the gear change.

Shifts, which could result in impermissibly high or low engine speeds, are not performed.
