GF82.60-P-2003CEJ Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- with CODE (498) Japan version

Function requirements
^ Status "circuit 30g ON" or "circuit 15R ON"
^ The Cockpit Management and Data System (COMAND) is authorized and an audio source is in operation

General
All volume and sound settings are performed using the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). This is performed either by the user or automatically by the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL]). The volume and sound setting function can be conducted as follows:
^ Function sequence for general volume setting and general sound settings using the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) or the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
^ Function sequence for setting the volume using the rotary switch of the COMAND controller unit
^ Function sequence for general volume setting and general sound settings using the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
^ Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control

Operating instructions
The volume/tone settings can be made using the following components:
- The + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- With the rotary switch of the COMAND controller unit
- Using the Audio/COMAND control panel

Function sequence for general volume setting and general sound settings using the left multifunction steering wheel button group or the right multifunction steering wheel button group
Pressing the + and - button for setting specific functions and volume control enables the volume for the desired audio function to be increased or reduced. By selecting the Sound menu with the Audio/COMAND control panel, the general and extended sound settings can then be performed by pressing the + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control.
The control signals are forwarded TO THE COMAND control unit over the following path:
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)

The volume and tone settings are shown on the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8). Predefined settings can be selected and reset to the manufacturer default setting via the system settings.

Function sequence for setting the volume using the rotary switch of the COMAND controller unit
The volume is set manually using the rotary switch on the COMAND controller unit. The control signals are processed internally in the COMAND controller unit.

Function sequence for general volume setting and general sound settings using the Audio/COMAND control panel
Manual sound settings (treble, bass and balance/fader) can be performed for each audio source using the Sound menu in the Audio/COMAND control panel. They can be set separately for each function (e.g. CD, radio reception, traffic announcements). The control signals are forwarded from the Audio/COMAND control panel via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit, where they are evaluated.
The required settings are processed in the COMAND controller unit, amplified and output over the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)

If the sound emphasis is changed (balance/fader), the ratio of the volume of the respective pairs of speakers (right/left, front/rear) changes.

Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control
The speed-dependent volume control can be used to adapt the volume to the noise level in the vehicle interior. In this case, the vehicle speed signal is used as the reference value. This procedure will run automatically. After evaluating the relationship indicator, the audio output is matched to the noise level in the vehicle interior. Depending on the vehicle speed signal, the COMAND controller unit raises or lowers the output level of the audio signals. The vehicle speed signal travels to the COMAND controller unit over the following path:
- Instrument cluster
- Interior CAN
