GF82.60-P-3020CE Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), Function
- with CODE (537) Digital radio
Function requirements, general
^ C. 30g ON or c. 15R ON
^ Audio system authorized and operating properly
^ Antenna system operating properly
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits circuit status c. 15 to the interior CAN (CAN B).
DAB, general
The Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3) allows reception of stations in DAB format.
DAB offers the following advantages:
- Reliable and static-free reception of radio stations
- Reception of international radio stations
- High sound quality
- Future-safe by multi-media capability
The DAB functions are controlled according to the vehicle equipment by one of the following control units, which is called audio equipment in the following text:
- Radio (A2) (model 204.0/2 with code (510) Audio 20 incl. CD changer)
- Radio with auto-pilot system (A2/56) (Model 204.0/2 with code (525) Radio MB Audio 50 APS or code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer)
- COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
The DAB functions are controlled using menu guidance in the audio equipment over one of the following control elements.
- Buttons on audio equipment
- Voice control system (VCS) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
The user can control the DAB functions only be selecting the corresponding submenus:
- "DAB" menu
- "'Available subprograms" submenu
- "Station list" submenu
- "Store station" submenu
The control signals on the buttons on the audio equipment and the selection of the voice control are processed internally by the audio equipment.
The settings are transmitted over the audio/COMAND control panel to the audio equipment via the telematics CAN (CAN A).
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the "audio equipment" via the following route:
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN
Function sequence for DAB
The following components of the antenna system receive the radio signals:
- FM, AM and CL antenna amplifier (A2/18) (model 204.0)
- Antenna amplifier for rear window FM antenna(A2/19)
- Rear window antenna amplifier 1 (A2/71) (model 204.2/9)
- Multifunction antenna (A28/11) (DAB-L-BAND signals)
- TV 1 antenna amplifier and DAB Band III (A94/1) (model 204.0/9)
- DAB Band III antenna amplifier (A95/2) (model 204.2)
The radio signals are forwarded to the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit using coaxial cables.
As of 1.6.09
The audio equipment transmits the FM station lists to the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit. If a comparable FM station is found, it is requested by the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit. If the DAB reception starts to deteriorate, the audio equipment is switched over to the FM station.
Data is exchanged between the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit and the audio equipment over the media-oriented system transport (MOST).
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are relayed to the following speakers via direct line and output from there:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
on vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio equipment transmits audio signals via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3).
The sound system amplifier control unit processes them and relays them to the following speaker via a direct line:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
- Bass speaker (H4/29) (model 204.0 and model 204.2)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
On model 204.0 the right rear surround speaker is integrated into the bass speaker. On model 204.9, the audio signals for the rear bass speaker (H4/38) are transmitted from the sound system amplifier control unit to the rear bass speaker amplifier (N40/9) and from there to the rear bass speaker via direct lines.
