Component Identification:
Prerequisites:
^ The radio control panel and navigation unit (A2/56) and the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) are switched on.
^ The voice control system (VCS) (LINGUATRONIC) is activated by operating the VCS [SBS] switch (S93/2).
^ The telephone application of the VCS is activated by entering the global command "Telephone".
^ The PIN code is entered and accepted.
Some of the commands that are possible for the dialog (dialing) with the VCS are the following:
1. Initial commands (starting the required functions)
- Dial number (memory)
- Dial telephone number
- Select name
- Store number
- Store telephone number
- Store name
- Dial
2. Editing commands (correcting or deleting functions)
- Repeat number
- Repeat telephone number
- Correct number
- Correct telephone number
- Delete number
- Delete telephone number
- Delete
3. Termination commands (closing a function, aborting a function or referring to a subordinate function) are the following:
- Store number
- Store telephone number
- Abort
- Aborting
Dialog example for establishing a connection by entering a telephone number:
After the command "Dial number", the VCS asks the user to enter the telephone number "Please say number". The numbers "zero" to "nine" and the word "plus" are allowed. The word "plus" replaces the international dialing code (e.g. "00"). The telephone number can consist of 1 to 30 numbers, and it can be entered as a number chain or a number block. A number chain is the consecutive (spoken coherently) entry of numbers. After the number chain is entered, it is repeated by the VCS.
Number blocks is the entry of approx. 3-5 numbers per block and a pause of approx. 0.5 s between the individual blocks.
After the number block is entered, the VCS repeats the recognized numbers and waits for the user to continue speaking. The VCS is in constant dialog with the user and also announces improper recognition or incorrect entries. The user can then enter additional numbers, a terminating command or an editing command. If the entry of the telephone number is correct, the telephone connection is established through the command "Dial". The telephone number entered is shown in the display of the radio control panel and navigation unit or COMAND control unit and in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1). The command "Aborting" terminates the dialog.
Display of the telephone number in the instrument cluster can be switched off by coding.
Dialog example for storing a name in the address book:
Frequently used telephone numbers can be stored in the VCS. After the command "Save name", the VCS asks the user to enter the telephone number "Please say number". Once the telephone number has been entered, the command "Save" is entered. The VCS now asks the user to enter the name "Please say name". The user is then asked by the VCS to repeat the name "Please repeat name". The user is now asked in which file of the address book the number should be saved "Where do you want to save number: private, cellular or business".
The VCS confirms this operation with the voice output "Name and number are stored".
The entry stored in the telephone book can only be called up reliably by the user who stored them.
Dialog example for establishing a connection by entering a name:
After entering the command "Select name", the VCS asks the user to specify the desired name. If there are several entries for one name (private, cellular or business), the VCS asks the user "Which number do you want to dial: private, cellular or business". After the user has responded (e.g. "private"), the VCS announces the name and type of entry and says "Dialing number".
With the selection option listed here, the termination command "Dial" can be omitted.
Dialog example for establishing a connection by redialing a number:
If the desired numbers are not available for the dialing possibilities listed (e.g. desired number is busy), it is possible for the user to have the VCS dial the last number selected again after reactivation of the VCS with the VCS switch, using the editing command "Redial".
Dialog example of an editing command for eliminating faults:
If the VCS misinterpreted a number entry or the user made an incorrect entry, then the user can correct the number in two ways.
1. If the number has been entered as a sequence of numbers (spoken coherently, without any pause), then the number can be changed only using the editing commands:
^ Delete
^ Delete number
^ Delete telephone number
All numbers entered up until now are deleted and new numbers or commands can be entered. The VCS announces this to the user via the voice output "Number has been deleted, please start speaking".
2. If the number was entered as a sequence of number blocks (3 - 5 numbers per block, pause of 0.5 s between individual blocks), the number can be changed via the editing commands:
^ Correcting
^ Correction
^ Correct telephone/number
During each of the dialing possibilities, it is always possible to terminate the dialog with the VCS by operating the VCS [SBS] switch or with the command "Abort". It is possible to complete long- distance calls to foreign countries using the VCS or to control message services/mailboxes.
A Help function exists which is intended to make operation of the VCS as easy as possible for the user.
If the user is in Dialog mode with the telephone and says the command "Help", the VCS provides the most important telephone commands.
If the user is in Dialog mode with the radio control panel and navigation unit or the COMAND control unit, then (s)he can say the command "Help phone" whereupon the system is changed and the VCS reads out the most important phone commands. By operating the VCS [SBS] switch the user can have the system list the command that was read last.
Further information is given in the VCS (LINGUATRONIC) operator's manual.
