Function
Monitoring the rain/light sensor and combination switch makes it possible for the overhead control panel control unit to activate the automatic driving light function. The rain/light sensor monitors the intensity of the daylight and the light conditions in the direction of travel.
Function when driving using the example of driving through a tunnel
The rain/light sensor signals the changed light conditions to the overhead control panel control unit. The overhead control panel control unit sends the "Driving lamps On" signal over CAN-B to the driver-side SAM control unit.
The signal is forwarded over CAN-B to the front passenger-side SAM control unit and to the rear SAM control unit.
The driver-side SAM control unit actuates the standing lamp as well as the low beam or high beam in the left front lamp unit (E1). The passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the standing lamp as well as the low beam or high beam in the right front lamp unit (E2).
The rear SAM control unit actuates the taillamps in the left taillamp (E3) and in the right taillamp (E4) as well as the license plate lamps.
If adequate lighting conditions are detected again, the driving and standing lamps are automatically switched off.
The actuation of the low beam or high beam depends on the position of the combination switch.
Function during wiping operation
If the windshield wiper is active for at least 20 s with a cycle time <6 s, the driving lamps are switched on as in the preceding example. If the cycle time is absent for 20 s, the driving lamps are switched off. With the functions of washing and one-touch wiping, the driving lamps are not switched on automatically.
When switching off circuit 15R or if the combination switch is set to "0" position, the driving lamps switch off immediately.
