GF08.30-P-0001MEH Hybrid Drive System, Function
- ENGINES 272.974 in MODEL 221.095 /195

Hybrid drive system - general points
The hybrid drive system consists of the engine 272 Hybrid, the integral starter-alternator (A79), power electronics control unit (N129/1), the high voltage system with battery management system control unit (N82/2) and the DC/DC converter control unit (N83/1).

The automatic transmission and the regenerative braking system is not described here.

Controlling of the hybrid drive system and of the internal combustion engine is performed in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) in the version "ME 17.7". The abbreviated designation "ME 17.7" means:
M = Motronic
E = Electronic accelerator pedal
17.7 = Version 17.7 (Hybrid)

The following table represents the model and major assembly overviews for the hybrid drive system:

To do this the ME-SFI [ME] control unit exchanges data via the attached chassis CAN (CAN E), drive-CAN (CAN C) and drive train sensor CAN (CAN I) with other control units which are integrated in the CAN network.
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit also acts as the interface (gateway) between the three CAN bus systems.

Sensor data is directly read in directly by the hybrid drive system and indirectly by the CAN network and actuates the respective actors.

The following functions and systems are controlled and coordinated:
- Basic functions
- Hybrid system
- Internal combustion engine control
- Internal combustion engine injection system
- Internal combustion engine ignition system
- Internal combustion engine exhaust system

Basic functions
- Control system diagnosis

Diagnosis
For diagnostic purposes, the Diagnosis Assistance System (DAS) can be used to read out and delete the fault codes for the hybrid drive system and to actuate certain specific diagnostic functions in a targeted manner.

Flash programming
The hybrid drive system in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flash programmable, that is the complete software in the control unit can be replaced using the DAS (installed new).
The software required to program the control units is provided on the STAR DIAGNOSIS DAS software DVD.
