Component Identification:
Location
The fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) is integrated in the electric controller unit (VGS) which is located at the bottom of the transmission in the oil pan.
Task
General
With its own independent diagnosis system the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) determines the current operating condition of the vehicle and controls all the gear change sequences taking into account shift comfort and the driving situation.
Diagnosis
For diagnostic purposes, the Diagnosis Assistance System (DAS) can be used to read out and delete the transmission control fault codes, and to actuate certain specific diagnostic functions.
CAN system
The fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) is connected to the CAN network of the vehicle via the drive train CAN (CAN-C) and exchanges data with other control units.
Flash programming
The transmission control in the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) is flashable, i.e. the complete software in the control unit can be changed (replaced) using the Diagnosis Assistance System. The software required for control unit programming can be found on the Star Diagnosis DAS Update DVD.
