GF00.30-P-0001RI System Diagnosis, Function

GF00.30-P-0001RI System Diagnosis, Function
- MODEL 230.4 as of model year 09/YoM 08 model refinement package

Function requirements
- C. 30 ON
- In order to output faults, the STAR DIAGNOSIS must be connected via the diagnostic CAN to the connector of the data link connector (X11/4).

System diagnosis
Continuous en-route fault monitoring and localization is carried out by the system diagnosis. All control units on the interior CAN and the engine compartment CAN transmit their fault codes and supplemental information to the central gateway control unit en route (N93).

The system diagnosis is integrated in the central gateway control unit and consists of the following:
- Evaluation software
- Design and content of onboard knowledge base
- Programming of onboard knowledge base
- Diagnostic output
- Additional functions

Evaluation software
The system diagnosis is based on the fault codes and supplemental information from the individual control units. If a control unit detects a fault, the associated fault code and the supplemental information are transmitted to the central gateway control unit. The evaluation software can use the transmitted fault codes and process variables to categorize each electrical path:
- Path is faulty, all components in this path are suspect
- Path free of faults, all components in this path are OK

The evaluation software can use this data to limit the number of faulty components.

Design and content of onboard knowledge base
The onboard knowledge base contains the associations between the fault codes, the supplemental information and the faulty components. The different variants (special equipment variants, national variants and function variants) are stored in this onboard knowledge base and activated as appropriate for the specific vehicle.

Programming of onboard knowledge base
The onboard knowledge base is programmed into the central gateway control unit in the plant during assembly. In certain cases, the central gateway control unit may need to be reprogrammed in the workshop:
- Central gateway control unit failure
- Installation of a new control unit variant in the interior CAN or the engine compartment CAN that requires an onboard knowledge base update

Diagnostic output
The following information is displayed for each diagnosis result:
- Control unit version
- Actual values
- Control unit adaptations
- Complete list of conducted tests
- Complete list of fault codes

Inspection instructions not yet resolved can be listed for the purpose of improving diagnosis result.
Starting at the faulty components it is possible to branch off into the further test operations.

Additional functions
- Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) alarm sources: the system diagnosis stores ATA fault profiles. These fault profiles provide indications of the cause of a triggered alarm.
- Actual and specified configuration of control units on the interior CAN and the engine compartment CAN: When a target and actual value comparison of these control units takes place, it is indicated whether these should be installed and whether they are active on the interior CAN or the engine compartment CAN.

During this evaluation, two error cases are distinguished and displayed as a diagnostic result:
- CAN single-wire mode (control unit is active, but is transmitting in CAN single-wire mode)
- Control unit is not active
