standing lights actuation function sequence
The driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) reads in the status of the rotary light switch (S1) directly and transmits the switch-on request via the interior CAN to the front passenger-side SAM control unit (N10/11) and to the rear SAM control unit (N10/8).

The driver-side SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:
- Left standing and parking lights (E1e3)
- Left front side-marker lamp (United States Of America) (E6/1)
(for code (494) USA version)

The front passenger-side SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:
- Right standing and parking lights (E2e3)
- Right front side-marker lamp (United States Of America) (E6/2)
(for code (494) USA version)

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:
- Left brake light, taillight and parking light (E3e9)
- Right brake light, taillight and parking light(E4e9)
- Left side marker lamp (United States Of America) (E3e6) and right side marker lamp (United States Of America) (E4e6)
(for code (494) USA version)
- Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
- Right license plate lamp (E19/2)

The active standing lights function is signaled by the driver-side SAM control unit through the actuation of the standing lights indicator lamp (S1e3) in the rotary light switch.

Additional function requirements, lights on reminder
^ Standing lights ON
^ Driver door OPEN
^ Transmitter key (A8/1) removed

Function sequence, lights on reminder warning
The logic for requesting the lights-on reminder warning is stored in the instrument cluster (A1).
The active standing lights actuation is made available by the driver-side SAM control unit, the status of the driver door is made available by the rear SAM control unit and the current circuit status of circuit 15 is made available by the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) on the interior CAN.
The instrument cluster receives this information, generates from it the request to output the lights-on reminder warning function and actuates the warning buzzer (A1h1) to audibly signal the lights-on reminder warning.
The message "switch off lights" appears in the instrument cluster.
