Voice control, general
The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) ("LINGUATRONIC"), which is integrated into the audio equipment, enables the driver to operate the audio or navigation system and the telephony system by voice commands.
The introduction of this technology optimizes active driving safety because driver distraction from the traffic situation is reduced. As a side effect, the operating comfort is significantly enhanced.
The voice control can be activated or deactivated using the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- Voice control system ON button (S111s4)
- "Back" and voice control system OFF button (S110s4)
The control signals for the voice control system buttons are read-in by the audio equipment via the following route:
- Steering wheel electronics (N135)
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column tube module control unit (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- Interior CAN
If the driver has activated the VCS [SBS], he/she can issue voice commands by spelling out words or by pronouncing complete words.
The voice commands are picked up by the handsfree system microphone, which is connected via a direct line to the audio equipment. The audio equipment processes the signals internally and implements them accordingly.
Voice recognition by the processor integrated into the audio equipment requires the driver's voice to be taught in beforehand.
If the driver's voice or the message of the voice command cannot be uniquely identified, the VCS [SBS] issues a query.
On vehicles without code (810) Sound system, the audio equipment actuates the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/1h1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/2h1)
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are routed by the audio equipment via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), amplified there and emitted over the following speakers:
- Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
- Left front door sound system bass speaker (H4/64)
- Right front door sound system bass speaker (H4/65)
- Left front door sound system tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound system tweeter (H4/69)
- Left front door sound system midrange speaker (H4/72)
- Right front door sound system midrange speaker (H4/73)
