GF91.60-P-1100FQ Passenger-Side Seat Occupied Recognition Function

GF91.60-P-1100FQ Passenger-side Seat Occupied Recognition Function
MODEL 218
- except CODE (494) USA version

Function requirements, general
^ Circuit 15R ON

The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the status of circuit 15R over the chassis CAN (CAN E) to the Supplemental Restraint System control unit (N2/10).

Passenger-side seat occupied recognition, general
The front passenger seat occupation status is always sensed by the supplemental restraint system (SRS). On vehicles with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR) a fitted child seat is also recognized.
The automatic child seat recognition function is only guaranteed to work with a child seat that has been approved and coded by Daimler AG. This child seat must be equipped with two transponders (resonators), which are located at the left and right in its base.
The passenger-side seat occupied recognition function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for front passenger seat occupied recognition
^ Function sequence for issuing status and error messages (with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]))

Function sequence for front passenger seat occupied recognition
Occupation of the front passenger seat is detected by the front passenger seat occupied recognition (B41/1) (without code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE])).
On vehicles with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]) occupation of the front passenger seat by a person or a child seat is detected by the seat occupied recognition and front passenger seat ACSR [AKSE] (B48). The signals are relayed to the Supplemental Restraint System control unit.

The following situations are defined:
- Seat not occupied:
If the belt is not buckled, the front passenger airbag unit, the front passenger sidebag unit and the front passenger emergency tensioning retractor unit are switched off. If the belt is buckled, the front passenger airbag unit is switched off.
- Seat occupied (light or heavy person):
The front passenger airbag unit is enabled (ignition of first stage or both stages).
- Child seat detected (with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE])):
The front passenger airbag unit is switched off.

Without code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]) the occupation status of the front passenger seat does not influence the supplemental restraint system's deployment characteristic. The occupancy status is only required by the instrument cluster (A1) for the seat belt reminder warning.

Function sequence for issuing status and error messages (with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]))
The partial function output of status and fault messages consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for actuating the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (N72/1e1)
^ Function sequence for outputting fault messages

Function sequence for actuating the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp
If a child seat is recognized, the Supplemental Restraint System control unit sends the switch on/off signal for the ACSR [AKSE] airbag OFF indicator lamp over the chassis CAN to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
This switches the ACSR [AKSE] airbag OFF indicator lamp on or off over the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1).

Function sequence for outputting fault messages
If the seat occupied and automatic child seat recognition function is defective or communication with the Supplemental Restraint System control unit is interrupted (e.g. plug not connected), the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp is also switched on. A fault is also stored in the Supplemental Restraint System control unit and an appropriate message is shown on the instrument cluster.
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit sends the corresponding information over the chassis CAN to the instrument cluster.
If the child seat is defective or improperly positioned (only one resonator detected), the supplemental restraint system indicator lamp in the instrument cluster and the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (A1e15) are switched on.
