MODEL 230.4
except CODE (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series"
as of Model Year 2009
/YoM 08 MOPF
Component Identification:
Location
The ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit is located on the left next to the driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) in the engine compartment.
The ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit is the master control unit for the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluating input factors
^ Control of functions
^ Actuation of components
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Engine compartment CAN (CAN C)
^ electro hydraulic brake CAN (CAN EHB)
The ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit also reads the data from the yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor (B24/15) via Control Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN).
Direct line
The SBC control unit (A7/3n1) reads in the signals from the following components directly and makes them available to the ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit via a direct line:
- Left front rpm sensor (L6/1)
- Right front rpm sensor (L6/2)
- Left rear rpm sensor (L6/3)
- Right rear rpm sensor (L6/4)
Engine compartment CAN
The ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit is a subscriber on the engine compartment CAN It communicates for instance with the following control units:
- Central gateway control unit (N93)
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)
Electrohydraulic brake CAN
Data is exchanged between the SBC control unit and ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit via the electro hydraulic brake CAN.
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Control of functions
The ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit controls the following functions:
- Anti lock brake system (ABS)
- Acceleration skid control (ASR)
- Brake Assist (BAS)
- Engine braking regulation (MSR)
- ESP
- Electronic brake force distribution (EBD [EBV])
- Tire pressure loss warning (RDW)
- Cruise control (CC [TPM]) (vehicles with code (440) Cruise control)
- Adaptive cruise control (DTR) (vehicles with code (219) Distronic (DTR))
- Electric parking brake (EFB)
- Additional support functions (SBC Hold (without code (494) USA version and code (460) Canada version), recharging, dry braking)
Actuation of components
Components are actuated with the following lines:
^ Direct line
^ Engine compartment CAN
Direct line
The following components are actuated via a direct line:
- SPS [PML] solenoid valve (Y10)
- Yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor (power supply)
Engine compartment CAN
The ESP, SPS [PML] and BAS control unit is a subscriber on the engine compartment CAN and provides read in data to other control units. It communicates for instance with the following control unit:
- Instrument cluster (A1)
Variants
On vehicles with code (494) USA version and code (460) Canada version, the SBC Hold additional support function is deactivated by coding.
