GF54.30-P-0002RI Instrument Cluster (IC), Function
- except CODE (P99) Special model "AMG Black Series"
Instrument cluster (A1), general
The instrument cluster serves to show all the dynamic and static vehicle conditions and the driver information about the systems built into the vehicle.
In the event of any faulty or safety relevant vehicle functions, various warnings are displayed on the instrument cluster.
The following displays are incorporated in the instrument cluster in order to be able to convey information to the driver:
- Permanent displays (e.g. vehicle speed, rotational speed, tank contents)
- Indicator lamps (green, yellow or blue) (e.g. turn signals, high beams)
- Warning lamps (red) (e.g. coolant temperature, brake fluid level)
- Left multifunction display (A1p13) and right multifunction display (A1p15) (e.g. odometer, outside temperature)
The function of the instrument cluster is comprised of the following partial functions:
^ Activate instrument cluster function sequence
^ Indicator lamp test function sequence
The following functions are also possible; they are described in separate documents:
^ Indicator/warning messages, function
^ Display operating conditions, function
^ Comfort displays, function
^ Trip computer, function
^ Settings on workshop level, function
Activate instrument cluster function sequence
The following activities or condition changes activate the instrument cluster:
- Open or close driver door
- Switch on standing lights or low beams
- Circuit 15R switch on
- Pressing the instrument illumination brightness control and reset button (A1r1)
- Unlocking the vehicle by means of the transmitter key (A8/1) (with activated ambient illumination)
- Detecting transmitter key from Keyless-Go system (with code (889) Keyless Go)
The instrument illumination (A1e8) switches on automatically upon activation.
Turning the instrument illumination brightness control and reset button does not activate the instrument cluster.
Additional function requirements for indicator lamp test
^ Circ. 15 ON
Indicator lamp test function sequence
The indicator lamp test serves the function test of certain warning lamps and indicator lamps in the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster automatically performs the indicator lamp test each time circuit 15 is switched on.
The status of circuit 15 is sent by the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) to the interior CAN (CAN B).
The function of the following warning and indicator lamps is checked during the indicator lamp test:
- Fuel reserve warning light (A1e4)
- Brake fluid and parking brake warning lamp (A1e7)
- Seat belt warning lamp (A1e9)
- Airbag indicator and warning light (A1e15)
- ABS indicator lamp (A1e17)
- Roll bar (RB) warning light (A1e29)
- ESP and ABS warning lamp (A1e41)
- Coolant temperature warning lamp (A1e54)
- Engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58) (without code (494) USA version)
The indicator lamp test is only deactivated when the engine is started (circuit 61 ON).
The following indicator lamps are not tested:
- Left turn signal indicator lamp (A1e1)
- Right turn signal indicator lamp (A1e2)
- High beam indicator lamp (A1e3)
