Group: 54
SUBJECT: MY-All, Model 172
Introduction of Paint-Chafing Nut for Ground Connections
Starting with model 172, all body ground connections are covered in a coat of paint; therefore, only the newly developed painting chafing nut (Figure 1) (2) should be used for ground connections. Using this nut ensures that paint is removed when screwing it on and a ground connection is made. Using any other nut can lead to vehicle issues.
Procedure
1. Ground Connection Assignment
When retrofitting and using a a new ground connection, make sure that the contact source of the blade connector is flat, i.e., has no welding splatter, etc.
2. Repeated Use of Paint Chafing Nut
When reusing the paint chafing nut on a ground connection, remove any paint in the grooves by compressed air or any other effective means.
3. Excessive paint
Avoid areas of excessive paint by applying paintwork protection in or around the ground connection area (e.g., around screwed-on nut or cap) before doing any paint repairs or touch ups.
