Instrument Panel - Replacement

Removal
1. Position wheels straight ahead.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove RF wheel and tire assembly.
5. Remove retaining nut in radiator coolant recovery reservoir area.
6. Remove bolt retaining front fender apron to front fender.
7. Position front fender splash shield out of the way.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Tag and remove wiring connectors.
10. Remove retaining screw in parking brake control. Remove parking brake control.
11. Remove screw retaining instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
12. Remove steering column assembly.
13. Remove from the LH and RH cowl side trim panels.





14. Remove lower cowl side trim panels.
15. Tag and disconnect wiring connectors in LH and RH cowls.
16. Remove ground wire assembly.
17. Remove retaining rivet in the passenger side of the instrument panel.





18. Unsnap the instrument panel finish panel, center and RH.
19. Unsnap the instrument panel finish panel, (LH).
20. Remove and disconnect the radio chassis.
21. Remove retaining screw in the instrument panel finish panel.
22. Position the instrument panel finish panel out of the way.
23. Tag and disconnect the wiring connectors.
24. Remove retaining screw in the passenger side air bag module.
25. Disconnect the electrical connector to the passenger side air bag module.
26. Remove and disconnect the instrument panel upper finish panel.
27. Remove instrument panel to cowl brace retaining screw.
28. Remove screws retaining instrument panel finish panel and remove instrument panel finish panel.
29. Remove retaining nut on the instrument LH and RH lower finish panel.
30. Remove instrument panel cowl brace.
31. Disconnect vacuum hose on the harness assembly.
32. Remove upper and lower screws retaining instrument panel finish panel to dash panel.
33. If instrument panel is being replaced, transfer all parts to the new instrument panel.





Installation
1. Install instrument panel to vehicle.

NOTE: Installation of instrument panel is best accomplished using two individuals.

2. Connect instrument panel vacuum hose to harness assembly.
3. Install upper and lower screws and nuts retaining instrument panel to dash panel. Tighten upper screws to 2-3 Nm (18-27 lb-in). Tighten bolt at lower LH side of instrument panel to 47-63 Nm (34-46 lb-ft).Tighten nut at each end of instrument panel to 22-34 Nm (16-25 lb-ft).
4. Install instrument panel cowl brace. Tighten brace retaining bolts to 9-14 Nm (80-124 lb-in).
5. Install instrument panel finish panel. Tighten retaining screws to 2-3 Nm (18-27 lb-in).
6. Install screw retaining instrument panel to cowl brace.
7. Connect and install instrument panel upper finish panel to top of instrument panel upper finish panel by snapping brace.
8. Connect electrical connector passenger side air bag module and install vehicle.
9. Reconnect electrical connectors.
10. Install instrument panel finish panel.
11. Connect and install radio chassis.
12. Install any other instrument panel finish panels as necessary.
13. Install new retaining rivet in passenger side of of instrument panel.
14. In LH cowl area, install ground wire and connect electrical connectors.
15. Install cowl side trim panels.
16. Install steering column assembly.
17. Install screws retaining instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement to instrument panel. Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-89 lb-in).
18. Install instrument panel steering column cover.
19. Install parking brake control.
20. Connect wiring connectors on outside of vehicle as necessary.
21. Install screw retaining front fender apron to front fender.
22. Install retaining nut in radiator coolant recovery area.
23. Install RF wheel and tire.
24. Install or connect any other items affected by removal of instrument panel.
25. Connect battery ground cable.
26. Test all instrument panel gauges and controls for proper operation.
