51 36 070 Removing and installing / replacing left or right rear side window

Special tools required:







IMPORTANT:
The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:
- Notes on window bonding
- General procedure for dismantling/installing bonded window glass

NOTE: Removal performed using cutting wire and special tool 51 3 270.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove bottom strip on side window
- Remove cover on C-pillar
- Remove trim panel for B-pillar







IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Trim panel (1) can be damaged by cutting wire in normal position.

Pull trim panel (1) inwards and fix in place with adhesive tape.







Affix body aperture in area (A) with extra adhesive tape.
Remove edge protection (1) in side window area.
Feed in cutting wire (2) between upper sealing lips.
Secure side window glass against falling off.
Cut through the top and side adhesive bead (3) first with cutting wire (2) and special tool 51 3 270.

NOTE: Extra cutting effort is required in the positioning pin area (4).







Route the front cutting wire (1) under the side window towards the rear and cut through the bottom adhesive bead (2).

NOTE: Side window is secured with Dual Lock tapes (3).







Installing Dual Lock tapes:

IMPORTANT:
To avoid window glass breakage and leaks:
Completely remove remnants of removed Dual Lock tapes and maintain installation position exactly.

Installation positions for Dual Lock (1) are marked on sheet metal flange.
Dual Lock (1) must be applied centrally to the embossed marks on the sheet metal flange.

Overview for side window bonding, rear (R58):







Fit the strip to the side window before applying the adhesive.







Positioning of new side window:
Carefully working on side window with special tool 51 3 220:
- Position top on side frame using positioning pins
- Insert bottom and press into Dual Lock tapes







Positioning when reusing the side window:
Carefully perform the following with the side window (1) using special tool 51 3 220:
- Position bottom with trim strip (2)
- Align with roof (3) in line with dimension "A"
A = 5 ±1.5 mm
- Align flush with body (4) in area "B"
- Press down and engage in Dual Lock tapes
- secure vertically with yellow plastic adhesive tape
Remove adhesive tape strips after the hardening time.
