Tailgate Window Glass: Service and Repair



51 31 200 Removing and installing/replacing rear window







IMPORTANT:
The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:
- Notes on window bonding
- General procedure for dismantling/installation of affixed window glass

When reusing the rear window:
Avoid damaging lines for rear window heating/aerial.

NOTE: Removal is performed with Roll Out 2000.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove roof spoiler
- Remove trim for tailgate
- Remove trim strip at rear window







NOTE: Remove both heated window plug connectors and affix to the rear window using adhesive tape.







IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push the wire from Roll Out 2000 to the line (1) through the adhesive bead.

Fitting spacer buffers (spacers):

IMPORTANT:
To avoid rear window breakage and leaks:
Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers and maintain installation location exactly.

Affix spacer buffers (1) to the moulding in the centre on the left and right.
Required spacer buffer size: 5x5x20 mm.

Overview of rear window bonding:







A tolerance band (1) is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) to mark the position of the adhesive bead. Place adhesive bead onto the centre of the tolerance band.
Lateral bead joint (2) below the connection for the heated rear window.







Make sure tailgate is fully closed.
Carefully handle the rear window and:
- position at bottom on tailgate
- Align sides evenly
- insert at top and press down
- secure vertically with yellow plastic adhesive tape







NOTE:
Do NOT open tailgate before adhesive has hardened.
Reassemble the vehicle.
Remove adhesive tape strips after the hardening time.
