Purpose, Parts, Affected Vehicles & Corrective Procedure Information

PURPOSE

Some 1987-1988 Precis vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle (A/T) and air conditioning

(heavy traffic, mountain roods, extensive Idling) when the ambient (outside) air temperature is above 100~F. This bulletin contains Parts Information and Corrective Procedures for vehicles which exhibit this condition.

PARTS

A Hot Weather Kit (P/N 2F31 0-21000) is available directly from your facing PDC. Kit components are listed on page 6 of this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This bulletin applies to a small percentage of 1987-1988 Precis with A/T and A/C built before 8/1/87.

NOTE: Not all affected vehicles will exhibit this overheat condition. The new parts should be installed only on vehicles which have experienced the overheat condition on a case-by-case basis.

CORRECTIVE PROCEDURE

Before replacing any parts, the following items should be checked for proper operation as each of these can cause or appear to cause an overheating condition.

^ Thermostat and Radiator Cap
^ Drive Belt Tension (Water Pump)
^ Water Pump (Visual Inspection - Audible Noise)
^ Temperature Gauge and Sending Unit
^ Electric Fan Operation
^ Thermoswitch in Radiator
^ Coolant Level
^ Obstruction on Condenser or Radiator Surface
^ Cylinder Head Torque

If all of the above items are found to be O.K., use the following procedure to correct the overheat condition.
