PURPOSE

This bulletin is issued to announce a change in the API Service Rating for the hypoid gear oil used in conventional differentials.

INSTRUCTIONS

When replacing the oil in any hypoid differential (hypoid differentials are used in rear-wheel drive vehicles and four-wheel drive vehicles), please use a lubricant conforming to API Service Rating GL-5 whenever possible. The API Service Rating is imprinted on every container of lubricant.

NOTE: This change applies only to conventional hypoid axles. GL-5 lubricant is already specified for all limited-slip differentials and will continue to be.
