PURPOSE

If a fusible link (slow blow fuse) in a 1987-1988 Precis vehicle is blown (Figure 1), it may be caused by a poor connection at the "B" terminal of the alternator (Figure 2). Always check the connection of this ring terminal (connector M63) when a fusible link is blown.

To prevent the fusible link from blowing because of poor contact at the "B" terminal, the factory has made the following production changes:

^ The diameter and thickness of the alternator ring terminal has been increased from June, 1987 production.

^ The mounting nut for the alternator ring terminal has been made stronger and the torque on this nut has been increased from September, 1987 production.

In addition to the above production changes, the fuse identification on the cover of the fusible link box has been changed from 'fuse color' to 'fuse capacity' (Figure 3) beginning with December, 1987 production.
