Fuel Injector Cleaner Kit Instructions

MITSUBISHI MOTORS DIAMOND CAR CARE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER KIT INSTRUCTIONS

1. With the engine running at operating temperature, disconnect the fuel pump electrical harness located at the back of the fuel tank; be sure to disconnect the fuel pump and not the fuel gauge. The engine will stall.
WARNING: Always wear safety goggles while cleaning.

2. Remove fuel return line at pressure regulator. Plug pressure regulator line.

3. Attach appropriate adapter to the cleaning apparatus hose. Close ball valve of cleaning apparatus*.

4. Remove the 12 mm union bolt from the top of the fuel filter. Place the provided double union bolt with washers and the 12 mm adapter on top of the existing banjo fitting. Attach the hex cap to the double union bolt locking the two banjo fittings together. Screw the single union bolt in the top of the fuel filter to keep dirt out of the filter.

5. Screw aerosol can into cleaning apparatus and hang high on hood. (The system is now pressurized.)

6. Start engine and set RPM at 2,000**. When engine stalls (approximately 5-10 minutes), turn off ignition. Close ball valve*.

7. WARNING: The system may still be pressurized.

With the apparatus still connected to vehicle, cover the connection between the aerosol can and ball valve using a shop towel.

8. Carefully unscrew the empty aerosol can.

WARNING: The can is still pressurized - do not discard into compactors. The system may still be pressurized. The cleaning apparatus and rail are now depressurized.

9. Remove the double union bolt and adapter from the fuel filter and reconnect all original fittings using the new copper washers provided in the kit.

10. Remove plug from pressure regulator. Reconnect the return fuel line and the fuel pump electrical harness.

11. Before restarting the engine, connect a remote starter switch between the positive battery post and the fuel pump check terminal. This will activate the pump with the ignition off, while checking for fuel leaks.

12. After being certain that there are no leaks, remove the remote starter and start the engine with the key. Run it at 2,000 RPM for 4-5 minutes after cleaning. Then snap the accelerator to 5,000 RPM 3-4 times to exhaust dislodged carbon.

WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW ANY OF THE CLEANING FLUIDS TO COME IN CONTACT WITH PAINT OR PLASTICS. PRODUCT IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE - USE APPROPRIATE CAUTION.

* To close ball valve - turn handle so that it is at a right angle to the hose. ** Set RPM at 2,000.
