^ Certain 1992-95 Expo and 1992-93 Expo LRV all-wheel drive models

IMPORTANT:
Do not assume that all vehicles in the production range are eligible for this campaign procedure. Check on the Warranty Superscreen to verify the vehicle is an affected VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

A letter has been sent to all owners of affected vehicles telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the transfer case inspected and, if required, repaired or replaced according to the procedures outlined in this Safety Recall Bulletin. A copy of the customer notification letter appears in this bulletin.

BACKGROUND

Some affected vehicles may have insufficient oil in the transfer case. Also, some affected vehicles may have a small oil leak from the transfer case and/or related parts such as the sleeve yoke assembly. Insufficient transfer case oil or leakage can cause transfer case bearing failure. As a result, this may cause lock-up of the front, rear, or all wheels.

Customers are instructed to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi dealer for inspection and possible repair. Repairs could range from simply filling the transfer case, replacing the rear seal/yoke assembly, or repairing or replacing the transfer case.

The flowcharts show the general description of the required operations. Details are contained in the PROCEDURE section of this bulletin. Follow the inspection procedures carefully to determine the appropriate repair needed.

REQUIRED OPERATIONS

Before starting the PROCEDURE section of this bulletin, CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected VIN for this campaign and that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
