90mitsubishi09 SUBJECT:RADIO NOISE FILTER
NO. TSB-90-16-002
DATE August, 1990
MODEL 1990 Precis
PURPOSE
In some cases, an engine "no-start" condition may be caused by a malfunctioning radio noise filter in the ignition circuit. This bulletin contains diagnosis and repair information for this condition.
DESCRIPTION
Condition:
When the starter is engaged, the engine will crank but not start due to lack of a spark.
Cause:
A noise filter is in line between the ignition coil and the tachometer to suppress electrical surges. When this noise filter malfunctions, it may ground the ignition system resulting in a no start condition.
Figure 1:
LOCATION OF NOISE FILTER
The noise filter is bolted on to the air intake surge tank near the distributor. See Figure 1.
DIAGNOSIS
To test a suspected malfunctioning noise filter, unplug the noise filter connector (C23) and try to start the engine. If the engine starts with the noise filter unplugged, but will not run with it connected, the noise filter is faulty. Replace the noise filter to correct the condition.
