Selection of Crankshaft Main Bearings

Figure 4.:

1. Selection of new crankshaft main bearings is made by observing the journal OD identification numbers located on the 7th counterweight of the crankshaft and the engine block bearing support identification numbers located at the top front corner of the engine block. (Figure 4.)

Figure 5.:

2. Select the correct replacement bearings by matching the journal OD numbers to the engine block bearing support numbers. This will give you two numbers.

EXAMPLE: Journal number 1 has an OD number of 2, and an engine block bearing support number of 1. (Figure 5.)

Figure 6.:

3. To avoid errors in crankshaft main bearing selection, create your own table for entering the correct identification numbers. Refer to Figure 6.

Figure 7.:

4. Using the chart shown in Figure 7, choose the crankshaft main bearing which matches the journal OD and engine block bearing support numbers determined in step number two of this procedure. Write down the identification mark and color in the table you created in Figure 6.

EXAMPLE: Journal number 1 has a journal identification number of 2 and an engine block bearing support number of 1. This corresponds to the new crankshaft main bearing number S3, with an identification color of Green. (Figure 7.)

Figure 8. Crankshaft Main Bearing:

NOTE: The location of the crankshaft main bearing identification mark is on the outside of each replacement bearing. The identification color is on the edge of each bearing. (Figure 8.)

4. Repeat the selection process for the remaining crankshaft main bearings, using the identification number information to order the correct parts.
