Soldering Instructions & I.D. Wiring Harness

Figure 1. Use block of wood for soldering base.:

Instructions:

1. Place a block of wood under crimp connector to provide a base for the soldering procedure and to prevent the soldering gun and solder from touching other wires. (Figure 1)

Figure 2. Soldering the crimp connection.:

2. Heat only the crimp connector with the soldering gun. Do not heat the surrounding wire or solder. (Figure 2)

3. Feed the solder into the end of the crimp connector until the connector is full.

4. Continue heating the crimp connector for about two seconds after removing solder to allow proper penetration.

5. Verify that no sharp points of solder formed during the procedure. These points could rub against other wires, causing damage.

Determining Maker of Wiring Harness

A different repair procedure is used for each type of wiring harness. It is important to determine which type is present on the vehicle.

Figure 3. Location of wiring harness ID tag.:

The wiring harness maker can be found by looking at the identification tag located four to eight inches above the ECU connectors, on the passenger compartment side. (Figure 3). The wiring harness is made by either Kyung Shin or Tong Hae (Dong Hae).
