Remove heater unit components in order as they appear, Fig. 16, noting the following:
1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Tape and isolate battery ground cable terminal. Wait at least 30 seconds before proceeding.
4. Drain cooling system.
5. Remove floor console, Fig. 17.
6. Remove SRS Diagnosis Unit (SDU) as follows:
a. Using a screwdriver, push in SDU lock spring to release lock lever, Fig. 18.
b. Disconnect connectors from SDU while pressing down on each connector lock. A double-lock mechanism is used on SRS diagnostic unit connectors. Use caution not to damage connectors by using excessive force.

7. Remove instrument panel, Fig. 19.
8. Remove heater core from heater unit as follows:
a. Disconnect mode selection damper linkage, Fig. 20.
b. Remove water valve cover, then the mode-selection control motor.
c. Remove blend air damper linkage, Fig. 21.
d. Remove hose clamps and attaching screws, then the water valve.
e. Remove heater core from heater unit.

9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Move damper control cam all the way to the Face position (clockwise).
b. Position motor lever so that potentiometer lever is aligned with Face mark mode (full clockwise position), Fig. 22.
c. Connect motor lever to damper control linkage.
d. Move blend air damper lever all the way down (clockwise).
e. Move motor lever to full counterclockwise position (potentiometer indicator in MC position), Fig. 23.
f. Connect motor lever to blend air damper lever linkage.
g. Ensure water valve is securely closed.
h. Prior to installing SDU, inspect for dents, cracks or deformation. Replace if necessary.
i. Place projection part of SDU against bracket as shown, Fig. 24, then securely install SDU. Failure to correctly install SDU may cause the SRS not to activate properly or result in untended deployment.
j. Ensure lock levers of SDU connectors are pressed down to lock connectors in place, Fig. 25.
k. Ensure no one is inside of vehicle, then rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
